26 january for indians

A very happy republic day to all Indians ! I’m not sure how much significance is given to this day by most Indians but sufficit to say that we all are proud of the progress that our country is making each day.

max new york life insurance ad sucks

The recent Max New York Life Insurance Ad which are being broadcast like crazy during the IPL T20 matches are such pain in the a**!  They show a woman rushing back home late and checking on her husband -who is shown back home already dozing off on the chair in a manner that suggests he is dead. And then she comes calling his name Sanju Sanju….. and sees him….. (u can well guess the rest). Max is trying to tell us that this can happen anytime so go buy that Insurance… so sick an idea being shown repeatedly atleast 50 times in a match really sucks !!!

harbhajan slaps sreesanth in IPL

Yesterday’s IPL match between was a big dissapointment for the Mumbai Indians team and especially for their captain Harbhajan Singh- for whom it must have been really hard losing all three games till now added to that the fact that he lost yesterday to Punjab’s Kings 11 team- he himself being a Punjabi Sikh.

So its not very hard for emotions to boil and Sreesanth added fuel to fire with his usual tantrums on the field. So when and the end of the game he walked smiling up to a sulking Harbhajan and said “Hard luck”: he uncorked Harbhajan’s boiling rage – and got a tight slap under the eye in return! Although television cameramen failed to catch the slap being administered LIVE, they didnt waste time to display its aftermath – a bitterly crying Sreesanth drenched in tears and his fellow team-mates trying to console him. The TV commentators were foolish enough to say that the joy of victory was too much for Sreesanth…. but at the same time there was a doubt as well. After that one could clearly see an upset Harbhajan talking to Ramiz Raja in the after match ceremony.

Newspaper reports today confirmed evrything that had happened. Harbhajan subsequently went to Punjab dressing room and apologized – then chatted for quite some time to Sreesanth. There was a post match press conference in which Harbhajan refused to talk about the issue and Sreesanth said that it wasnt anything serious ( which was obviously what he had been instructed to do by senior Indian players).

Couple of things are clear from this episode are: Harbhajan obviously has a problem in his attitude- this is the second time he has been caught in a controversy of similar kind- he cant seem to contain his anger- and this is not acceptable for a cricketer playing for the national team- he will potentially spoil the whole comfort level in the dressing room. Reports talk about him taking misfields by other indian players on his bowling very negatively.- Second is that people who show passion in positive form – like Sreesanth for country winning – also are very very emotional in handling the negative side- they are not able to handle it well.

Finally this incident is going to be investigated, and then buried for the Indian teams interest but the knots in friendship will remain.

New Rediffmail Ads

The New Rediffmail ads being Aired on TV channels- I am sure you must have noticed them if not liked them. I personally feel that its a bad advert. The AD shows a young lady trying to oppose the injustice in the soceity – alone- and hence failing everytime. She then gets the power of rediffmail, writes an email and hits the “Send to all” button. Thats it- the next scene shoes a crowd of atleast 200 with banners etal supporting her cause!! And the tagline is ” EK REDIFFMAIL BHEJKE TO DEKHO”.

In the email market Yahoo is no1 in the world followed by gmail which is growing day by day. Rediffmail also has a good userbase in India but it seems to be getting affected by gmail’s popularity. Already India is becoming a good market for international internet companies as the user base is increasing fast. Soon India will follow China ( China today has more number of internet users than the US). Ebay, Yahoo, Amazon and AOL have setup shop in India. AOL is also promoting its India email service on all the major channels aggressively.

The problem for these companies is that Google has such a big brand image that young users are automatically shifting to its email service. Having google search & social networking site Orkut (no1 in India) helps. So rediffmail and AOL have to try and excite users to atleast signup once- thats a minimum to experience whatever value add they might be providing. So such desperate attempts like”Bhejke to dekho”. I was just wondering that in the AD the woman hits the “Send to All” button” – that amounts to SPAMMING. Just imagine yrself opening yr rediffmail one fine morning and finding yr inbox full with mails from across the country urging for you to join the movement against injustice!….ohhhhh Gawddd
